G7
Giant puppets of world leaders attempting to pull Donald Trump towards the Paris climate deal … just one of the scenes at the G7 summit in Sicily.
The gathering may be closed off to protesters, but they made sure their message was heard loud and clear by the media.
Greenpeace and Oxfam both carried out performances for the cameras in a town near where the G7 is being held.
Lucas Iacoboni, the head of the climate and energy campaign for Greenpeace Italy, told reporters: “G7 countries played a major role in polluting our planet and must now lead the way to the solution.
“For this reason Greenpeace is calling G7 leaders to reaffirm their commitment to improve the Paris agreement.
“If leaders like Trump will not respect their obligations, the rest of the G7 must go forward, because we do not have time.”
Trump had threatened to initiate protectionist policies and pull the US out of the Paris climate change deal signed in 2015.
